Visceral artery aneurysms of splanchnic vessels are uncommon. We present a case of massive retroperitoneal hematoma due to rupture of a suprarenal artery aneurysm. A 53-year-old man with sudden onset of severe lower retrosternal and epigastricpain was admitted to a nearby hospital. The next day, severe abdominal pain and abdominal distension developed. He was transferred to our hospital in the after noon. Panaorta angiography revealed a suprarenal aneurysm 8.0 mm in diameter. Laparotomy disclosed much retroperitoneal blood and a large clot. The bleeding vessel was ligatedand sutured. The postoperative course was uneventful but a peptic ulcer and he was sent home on the 34th postoperative day. As far as we could find in the literature, this case was the second one in Japan. Visceral artery aneurysms of splanchnic vessels will be diagnosed more frequently because of further improvement in diagnostic techniques such as angiography.
