We experienced 4 cases of intrahepatic portal vein anomaly, which lacked the left umbilical portion and had a right anterior branch like a normal umbilical portion. The round ligment arose from it. From two operations we found that the gallbladders were located to the left of the round ligament (left-sided gallbladder). We found 29 reports of left-sided gallbladder in Japan. Portal vein anomaly was reported in 7 of these cases. Moreover, 4 of these 7 indivuduals had an intrahepatic portal vein anomaly. We concluded that anomaly of the portal vein development is one cause of left-sided gallbaldder.
