A case of solid and cystic tumor of the pancreas is reported. The patient was a l5-year-old female with the chief complaint of left upper abdominal pain. Results of laboratory tests were unremarkable. Ultrasonography, computed tomography and angiography revealed a tumor in the pancreatic body and tail. On the 3rd hospital day, severe abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting occurred. As a diagnosis of acute abdomen was made, an emergency distal pancreatectomy was performed. At laparotomy, the tumor was found to be well encapsulated and its size was 12×9×6 cm. Gross pathological examination revealed severe hemorrhagic necrosis. Microscopically, the tumor was characterized by distinctive solid and cystic patterns. Immunocytochemical examination for α1-antitrypsin was positive. Electron microscopic examination did not reveal zymogen-like granules in the tumor cell. These findings were compatible with a sold and cystic tumor of the pancreas. The patient has been followed for 4 years with no evident recurrence.
