We present a rare case of leiomyoblastoma of the duodenum. A 46-year-old man was referred to our hospital with a 6-month history of epigastric pain. Upper gastrointestinal barium study and gastroduodenoscopy revealed a tumor with bridging folds in the first portion of the duodenum. A small ulceration was noted on the tumor. Biopsy of the tumor showed unclassified cells in smooth muscle origin. CT/scan confirmed that the tumor was confined within the duodenum. The diagnosis of duodenal submucosal tumor was made. At laparotomy, the tumor which was adherent to the surrounding organs, was recognized between the duodenum and pancreas. A duodenotomy was made and the tumor was completely excised. The resected specimen showed a nodular tumor 5×4×3 cm in size. Histological examination of the tumor revealed leiomyoblastoma, and spindle and polygonal epithelioid cells with abundant eosinophilic cytoplasm. The diagnosis was leiomyoblastoma.
