Four patients with sliding esophageal hiatal hernia associated with reflux esophagitis were effectively treated by fundoplication of Nissen procedure with Dor's modification. The ages of one male and three female patients ranged from 56 to 76 years old. The chief complaint in 3 patients was vomiting, and that of the other was heart burn. All patients suffered from moderate or severe reflux esophagitis before the operation. Operative time was within 95 minutes in all cases, and volume of intraoperative bleedings was less than 150 ml. Postoperative complications did not occurr in any case. Postoperative endoscopic pictures showed healing of the reflux esophagitis in 3 cases, although remission of slight degree esophagitis was seen in one case. None of the patients complained of dysphagia after the operation. As this operative procedure is safe, we would recommend this surgical procedure for patients with sliding hiatal hernia suffering from refractory reflux esophagitis.
