A 56-year-old woman underwent a low-anterior resection of the rectum and partial hepatectomy for rectal carcinoma with liver metastasis. Remnant liver recurrence occurred three times during the 6 years after initial surgery. Hepatectomies were performed for each liver recurrence. At present, she has only the subsegment V and caudate lobe of the liver remaining, but is still alive and disease free. This is a rare case demonstrating that long survival can be obtained by repeated hepatectomies.
