We report a case of retroperitoneal liposarcomas of probably multicentric origin with a lipoma in the sigmoid colon mesentery. A 57-year-old male underwent abdominal ultrasonography in September 1996. Mass lesions were detected in the left upper abdomen. Abdominal ultrasonography, CT and MRI demonstrated 2 mass lesions: one on the ventral side of the left kidney and one between the rostral end and the hilus of the left kidney. It was suggested that the tumor on the ventral side of the kidney was associated with adipose tissue. Surgery was performed under the preoperative diagnosis of liposarcoma. Two mass lesions in the retroperitoneum were confirmed during surgery: one on the ventral side of the left kidney and one between the rostral end and the hilus of the left kidney. The adipose tissue suggested by the imaging study proved to be an independent tumor located in the sigmoid colon mesentery. Pathological examination showed that the two mass lesions in the retroperitoneum were myxoid liposarcomas, while the tumor in the sigmoid colon mesentery was a lipoma. We considered that the retroperitoneal liposarcomas with the lipoma were of multicentric origin.
