Malignant melanoma of the anorectal region (ARM) is relatively rare and is considered one of the most lethal malignant tumors. We encountered 2 cases with a long survival time. In Case 1, a 76-year-old-male with hypomelanotic ARM was treated by additional local excision followed by polypectomy (histological wall invasion; m) and survived for over 7 years without any signs of recurrence. In Case 2, a 72 year-old female was discovered to have an approximately 48-mm-diameter infiltrating polypoid ARM, and was treated by abdomino-perineal resection with D2 lymphadenectomy four weeks after incisional biopsy (histological wall invasion; sm, v0, ly0, n (-), Stage I). She survived for about 4.1 years after the operation without any signs of recurrence.
