Department of Surgery, Fukui Prefectural Hospital
A 51-year-old man who had somked 20 cigarettes and drunk one litter Japanese sake every day for 30 years was admitted to our hospital because of a sudden pain in his upper left abdominal region. The patient went into shock, and an abdominal CT image showed a large enhanced mass and edematous changes around the pancreatic body and tail. An ultrasonographic examination showed a low echoic mass in the upper left abdomen with some high echoic areas. A superior mesenteric artery angiography revealed a pseudo-aneurysma on the middle colic artery. The patient was treated non-operatively, and the mass decreased in size. The pseudoaneurysma also disappeared with no complications.
