The number of Dieulafoy-erosion gastric ulcers reported has recently increased, although this ulcer of the small intestine is very rare. We treated a patient of bleeding from a Dieulafoy-erosion ileal ulcer. A 87-year-old man was admitted to our hospital with melena. Scintigraphy (99mTc-RBC) showed an accumulation in the right lower quadrant. Emergency surgery was conducted, and intraoperative endoscopy identified the bleeding point, and we undertook spindle resection of the ileum. Pathologic examination revealed charactaristic features of a Dieulafoy-erosion. Only 8 such cases in the small intestine have been reported worldwide, to our knowledge.
