We report a case of solitary fibrous tumor of the peritoneum. A 32-year-old woman admitted for diarrhea was found in physical examination to have a hard movable mass palpable in the left lower abdomen. Barium enema showed a deformity which was changeable in position associated with body movement due to compression by the tumor. Ultrasonography showed a 60 mm tumor in the left lower abdomen, and computed tomography showed the tumor to be loosely connected to the abdominal wall. Magnetic resonance imaging showed a well-defined tumor of high intensity in T1-weighted imaging and low density in T2-weighted imaging. A laparotomy was conducted based on a diagnosis of a pedunculated tumor arising in the abdominal wall. The tumor rose from the peritoneum of the left abdominal wall with a pedicle, and its surface had abundant vasculature. The resected specimen was a 60×55×40 mm encapsulated tumor with a cross-section of grayish white with a whorled pattern. Microscopically, the tumor consisted of an admixture of round or oval and spindle cells aggregating in nests and sheets surrounded by abundant patternless collagen. A hemangiopericytom-like appearance was also seen in some areas. Immunohistochemically, the specimen tested positive for CD34 and vimentin but negative for CD31 and cytokeratin. Based on these findings, the patient was diagnosed as having a solitary fibrous tumor of the peritoneum.
