A 48-year-old man admitted for an abdominal tumor in March 2002, had undergone resection for a jejunal tumor. Immunohistochemical examination showed tumor cells were positive for c-kit and CD34, but negative for S-100 and α-SMA. The tumor was diagnosed as a gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) of the small intestine. He was later readmitted in September 2003 for a retroperitoneal tumor beside the right adrenal gland, 8 cm in diameter. Neoadjuvant chemotherapy with Imatinib Mesylate at a dose of 400 mg/day was administered with a diagnosis of recurrent GIST. All toxicities were mild and treatment was continued for a month. CT showed marked reduction in tumor size, laparotomy was conducted in November 2003. Histopathologically, the tumor was diagnosed as recurrent GIST.
